About

Technical Production Courses have been running at Federation University Australia (previously known as School of Mines Ballarat and University of Ballarat) since 1994. Over time the course has provided training in several qualifications – Diploma of Entertainment (Lighting and Sound) and Diploma / Advanced Diploma of Live Production, Theatre and Events (Technical Production).

There are many graduate success stories in Theatre, Venue and Touring employment. Graduates of our Live Production Programs have developed great reputations in the Entertainment Industry and are actively sought after.

The Course provides students with the skills to work in the industry via an innovative training program of live to air performances involving 30 students rotating producing lighting, sound and vision elements – around 68 shows in over 2 years involving over 600 musicians. (see Crew)

From 1999 to 2006 all course events were broadcast live online. After 5 years of only producing youtube video highlights, in 2012 the course recommended streaming shows online via support from PlayFi.com and are looking at other innovative technologies to help deliver the work of our students to the World.

Half way through 2012, due to Victorian Government funding cuts of $20 million dollars to Federation University Australia (formerly known as the University of Ballarat), the Course was placed on a list of Courses to be ceased. A response and proposal from The School of Education & Arts was presented to Senior Management for the Course to continue and was accepted subject to review in 2013.

It was with great success that as a result of the 2013 Review, the Course has been deemed viable and will continue into the future, subject to sufficient enrolments and interest from applicants.

The Live Production Program at Federation University Australia has very close links to the entertainment and music industries in our region and provides valuable and worthwhile community engagement with local musicians and audiences with their own regional University.

Our students and staff encourage you to view over 500 videos of course material from 2006 to 2017 on the FedUni-Live YouTube Channel!!
